It never got F'd with or towed. Dispersed camping is not allowed within the Tahoe basin, FYI. If you head to Loon Lake west of Lake Tahoe it'll take you to the Crystal Basin Recreational Station that has 25 different campsites. Donner Ski Ranch is $450 but a smaller mountain. Bigger than Boreal, but smaller than Sierra or Diamond. Soda Springs is very cheap, was $239 last year, but is very small, similar to Boreal I think, maybe even smaller. Tahoe Donner is 530 but is smaller than Donner Ski Ranch. Whichever resort you pick be ready for insane crowds and the potential for crazy weather. Homewood has the best lake views and is a good small mountain. There are a few very small non-resort ski areas around Tahoe that would be great for beginners. The epic pass is cheaper right now but I’m not sure if most of it would be wasted on a beginner. Sierra for sure. That’s at least and hour closer, and 6-8 hours on big storms. Go for Sierra. I wouldn't say an Epic pass is wasted on a beginner. But think about the experience.
